How to calculate flooring area and packs
Start with the measured area and check how many square metres one box covers. Piece sizes and the laying pattern can change the allowance you need.
- Measure each zone and add its area.
- Choose an allowance for the layout.
- Enter coverage per box.
Formula
A 5 × 4 m floor
The floor area is 20 m². A 10% allowance gives 22 m². With 1.8 m² per box, buy 13 whole boxes, providing 23.4 m².
- Dimensions describe a rectangle or an equivalent measured area.
- The allowance is applied once before rounding.
- Skirting, adhesive, joints and underlay are not calculated automatically.
Frequently asked questions
Is 10% always enough?
No. It is an example value. Cuts, patterns, piece sizes and room layout may call for a different allowance.
How do I handle an irregular room?
Split it into rectangles without overlaps and add their areas. Use that total in the calculation.
Is skirting included?
No. Measure its length and calculate units separately. Do not include it in the flooring price per box.
